October Wine Club: Great Wines for Halloween from Liliac Winery
Updated: Oct 1
October is right around the corner, the leaves will be changing colors before long, and that means it’s almost Halloween! This month’s Virginia wine club selections are perfect for the season: they come from the winery known for making “The Wine of Transylvania.”
About Liliac Winery: The Wine of Transylvania
The October wine club selections all come from Liliac Winery. Liliac is located in the Lechința region of Romania. They have helped to revitalize this wine region in recent years, while upholding the historic winemaking traditions of the area.
All of Liliac’s unique wines are made from hand harvested grapes and are of the highest quality. The winery itself states, “In each bottle of Liliac you will find a dedication to quality, attention to detail, and a spiritual connection to the soil and the Transylvanian climate, decanted by Austrian experience and innovative winemaking techniques.”
Because of their location in Transylvania wine country and the bat logo that adorns all their bottles, Liliac is the (un)official wine of Halloween, so there’s no better time to give one of these bottles a try.
Whether you’re fully embracing spooky season, holding onto summer with all you’ve got, or ready for cozy winter evenings by the fire, Liliac Winery has something for everyone. We have a selection of Liliac bottles, including whites, reds, and rosés, that wine club members are able to choose between for their October picks.

Wine Tasting Notes and Food Pairings
Each of these Transylvanian wines offers a unique tasting profile and set of food pairing suggestions. All of these wines are great to enjoy on their own, to accompany dinner, or to pair with appetizers and snacks.
With the Liliac Winery Rosé you’ll get hints of blackberry, strawberry, pomegranate, and red apple. The berry flavors and creamy texture of this wine are balanced by fresh acidity. This dry rosé pairs well with cheeses and salads. It also pairs well with a meal of pasta or seafood.
The Liliac Winery Red Cuvée has a bright ruby color, gentle spice, and an aromatic finish. You can expect hints of ripe black fruit, strawberry, raspberry, coffee, tobacco, and subtle spice with this red blend. A meal of roast lamb or seasoned duck would complement this red wine well. Other pairing suggestions include mature cheeses and cured meats.
The Liliac Winery Fetească Regală is youthful with a balanced palate. It has relatively high acidity and a long aftertaste, and you will experience peach, pear, citrus, elderflower, and honey on the nose. This dry white wine pairs nicely with chicken, risotto, or fish.
Finally, the Liliac Winery Fetească Albă is moderately acidic and citrusy. It’s fresh, expressive, and offers tastes of lemon, white peach, ripe pear, and orange blossom. This is a great wine to eat with seafood or any white meat. This dry white also pairs well with a variety of appetizers.
Is your mouth watering yet? Liliac offers such a unique and varied profile of wines that truly can suit just about any occasion.
