What is Our story?

It all began at the Virginia Wine Expo in 2024 with a simple question: “What if we could bring this experience home, share it with our people?” From that spark, Vin Noir Explorers & Importers was born. We’re determined to make wine about more than tasting notes. We believe it should invite connection, evoke memories, and stir emotion. One glass of Marcline Vineyards Cabernet in Mt. Crawford, Virginia, convinced us that every sip should carry a story worth telling. As the only minority-owned wine importer and distributor in North Carolina, we seek out small-batch, family-run vineyards that pour heart and soul into each barrel; VNE Importers is the conduit where passion meets purpose. Rooted in the Outer Banks, where the Wright Brothers took flight, we draw inspiration from those who dare to dream big. Our goal? To open new horizons for everyone who lifts a glass. So open a bottle. Pour a chapter. Savor a story.

Shunia Burruss

Owner & Business Development

Shunia, a WSET Level I & II in Wines awardee, is the founder of Vin Noir Explorers and Importers, a venture she and her husband created to highlight small, family-owned wineries worldwide. With a passion for unique wines, she believes each bottle tells a story of its people and history. Through VNE Importers, Shunia shares exceptional wines and the rich narratives of dedicated vintners. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from Old Dominion University, she combines her analytical skills with her love for wine to celebrate the global wine community.

Chris 'Cp' Richardson

Operations & Marketing

Chris is the Head of Operations at Vin Noir Explorers and Importers, a company he co-founded with his wife to showcase small, family-run wineries. With a knack for discovering unique wines, Chris ensures each import has a captivating story tied to its makers. He manages logistics and regulatory compliance, making sure these hidden gems reach the market. Chris holds a Bachelor’s in Information Science and a Master’s in Project Management, equipping him with the essentials for VNE Importers' success.

Erin "Erni" Miller

Chief Wine Educator

Erni, a Court of Master Sommeliers - America certification holder, brings ten years of dedicated experience in the fine dining industry, beginning her journey in 2017. Her career trajectory showcases a strong understanding of restaurant operations. Erni's leadership in this role was built upon a foundation of meticulous service and operational excellence. Complementing her professional experience, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Monmouth University, demonstrating a creative and analytical approach that enriches her work.

Simon Kaufmann

Educator & Business Development

Simon is an accomplished wine professional and educator dedicated to connecting people with exceptional wines. An Advanced Sommelier certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas, he's the only one in North Carolina’s Outer Banks and among the few statewide. His journey includes managing restaurant wine and staff wine mentorship. His approach combines professionalism with personal storytelling, rooted in a family winemaking heritage. His deep family wine heritage fuels his passion, and he aspires to become an importer himself.
